BEST PRACTICES

  • Always research trail conditions and weather. New Mexico is predictably unpredictable and being prepared is the best practice for hiking in our beautiful state.
  • In the summer months we recommend keeping a rain jacket on hand for the afternoon monsoons.
  • Avoid slot canyons and arroyos (creeks/ditches) during monsoon season as flash flooding can and will occur.
  • Santa Fe sits at 7,000 ft. elevation and the mountains are even higher, drink lots of water and take frequent breaks.
