The Lowtimers / Tommy Luke
The Lowtimers are a west-coast Americana band rooted in the road-worn songwriting of Austin Smith and Mark Tegio. Their debut album Cracks earned praise as “Cosmic Country for 2025,” Americana UK hails the record as “deeply authentic and rewarding,” and have been called a “must-listen newcomer to the Country Americana scene.”
This ramblin’ Texan is a witty singer-songwriter with a love for old traditional/folk & country music. His signature style recalls the early work of Bob Dylan with an added twang similar to Willie Nelson or Jerry Jeff Walker. Tommy Luke’s songs carry the dusty, well-worn sounds of western music. His earthy voice drives the narrative of songs such as “The Ground” & “Oklahoma Hula Hoopin’ Angel” with a confidence & honesty reminiscent of Kris Kristofferson’s best early work. You might be forgiven for thinking his music emerged from an earlier time. Free of the trappings of contemporary music & the irony some bring to traditional music, there’s an undeniable appeal to the songs that populate his album Life Ain’t Hard & his live shows. Tommy Luke is a must-see songwriter.
